A little boy wrapped up in a loving, protective hug with what an American quickly identifies as a grizzly bear is, initially, a startling concept.
Then whimsical details such as the honey jar catch the eye and help fire the imagination; pretty soon you simply enjoy the painting for what it is and don't worry about it making "sense".
Looking at it reminds me of my Father from the perspective of a small boy. Even though I am bigger now than he was, I am prompted to believe that it would be worthwhile to be that small again, for the sake of getting another of those huge engulfing hugs.
